Breville BR8 Bread Maker Rating stars Sent: 25 February 2004
If you want the best you must read all of what I've to say. This machine is incredible. I am very delighted with it, not just because of its stunning looks but because it is so easy to use. If I find things to complicated I will bin it, with this you just press a number and away it goes. It has a comprehensive recipe book which is very clear and easy to understand. I'm making a point of it not being too complicated because with a bussy life style you need something easy. It cooks superb. I've tried white, wholemeal & a cheesy loaf they've all turned out fantastic even my husband said so-so that is a good note to take. It toasts as well & beautifully, this is important as many bread makers bread do not toast. This can make jam and cakes which I have not tried but I will in the near future try making jam - may be organic!!! I love making my own bread because the shops are so full of free radicals etc. which are harmful so I've had the opportunity to try out 2 others in the past. Firstly the Panasonic (the last two models), this is voted the top one and rightly it is in comparison to some but I'll tell you what, the bread tastes metalic and full of air, also it doesn't toast great, the 2 hour rapid bake sucks-my bread was always flat and the recipe book is not so comprehensive as the Breville. Secondly I had a wizz at the Kenwood Chef, well the bread was fair I'd say and although fairly simple it was time consuming, I found myself waiting around for it to rise because if you left it to long you'd have a huge mountain to tame (from experience)also the unit is very expensive just for making bread so that has been and gone. So yes take it from an experienced bread maker this is the KING OF BREAD MAKERS. One last word, be sure to get some powder Vit C especially for bread making or bread improver (I believe it is the same), it does state this in the recipe book, it is worth it because it gives the bread a good kick and it will last you a long time.
