Mixed feelings Sent: 05 January 2009 Works well if you're lucky! The first one arrived without the manual, cup and crema filters. After getting the replacement, the second unit was leaking lots of water from the tank, even with the machine off. At that moment I had decided to give up on De'Longhi and move to another brand. However, before returning it I decided to disassemble the tank and check for the source of the problem. After some inspection, I noticed that the sealing device (a rubber ring, about an inch long) seemed misplaced. I removed it and placed it backwards. Done. The machine has been working greatly and with no problem.
Overall evaluation:
Pros: Great tasting coffee and good crema. Pretty and well designed.
Cons: REALLY noisy and vibrates a lot, so you have to keep an eye for moving cups. Takes a while to warm-up, but I guess it's normal in any good coffee machine.
A bit on the noisy side when heating up. Sent: 02 January 2009 This has to be the only fault with this reasonably priced machine. As there are no cappucino drinkers in this house we are delighted with the quality of the espresso but do find that the Arabica beans in the Illy pods or even in the can you buy yourself, are a bit bitter. In future I shall be buying and grinding Kenya beans for a smoother taste.
We use demi-tasse coffee cups which fit perfectly underneath the machine and to cut down the noise levels have cut out a piece of foam and placed the machine on it.
Good Mid-Range Machine Sent: 06 January 2008 I upgraded from a Morphy Richards Café Rico Espresso Maker to this a few weeks ago and have been very pleased with its performance. It is much more robust than some similarly priced machines and nicely finsihed in silver and matt black.
The machine makes an excellent espresso with a thick crema and the milk steamer works well for cappuccino. My only complaints are that the machine is very noisy and it is a little slow to heat up when preparing the first cup, also there is no room for anything larger than a small coffee cup under the nozzle so those wishing to make americano etc- will have to transfer the coffee to another cup.
Aside from this the machine is excellent for the price and a good compromise for those wishing to upgrade their machine but unable to afford a top brand like Gaggia or Krups.
