It's a Shame Sent: 21 August 2008 I got one of these machines for Christmas, and for the first couple of weeks I was in coffee heaven. Then it tripped the fuse box in the house, then it exploded coffee grinds all over the kitchen and tripped the fuses again. I cleaned it and made sure the holes were clear in the tray.
three or four months of heaven again, admittedly every couple of weeks it tripped everything and needed a clean. Then even the cleaning did nothing. So now I have a rather cool looking ornament.
Great Coffee, shoddy product.
Just the job Sent: 22 July 2008 I have been using this coffee maker for the last couple of months and have been really delighted with it. Other reviewers have stated the obvious point that it is small, but then that is the idea - you're not spoiled for choice if you want to buy something else that can handle bigger orders at home. I have enjoyed excellent cappuccinos quickly and easily each morning, and occasionally make lattes for my wife, as well as the odd espresso. No trouble at all. The only thing I discovered you have to be careful about is that it is important not to over-fill the coffee compartment, and not to tamp the coffee down. If you want a reliable little unit that doesn't take up much space, and is to be used by one or two people, then I'd say this is excellent value for money. It looks good, too.
Tasty Coffee, tasty design. Sent: 09 October 2007 I've been quite impressed by the EC11, the mini-robot styling is a departure from just about every other coffee machine out there, the size (it takes only a kettle-ish amount of counter top) as mentioned is a double edged sword, if there are more than two cappuccino fiends in the house, forget it, but for one or two people it is a good compromise to giving over an entire surface to a heaving, steaming, sighing, brute of a bean-steamer and you soon come up with your own workaround for its small boiler.
It feels quite sturdy and thoughtfully designed, everything fits nicely, noslip base, nice and quiet (unlike a *cough* Gaggia on all the above). The frother is powerful enough to easily whip up long lasting foam. It would have been nice to see a more expensive finish on the actual chamber plastics, oh for a chromed version, but all in all a great machine for the price and a bit of a looker to boot.
PROS:
Small Dimensions
Fast Boiler Heat up
Quiet
Easily mastered
Good Steam pressure for frothing
CONS:
Capacity
