I actually like this product Sent: 31 December 2008 I bought one of these several years ago and it did indeed have a strong plastic smell, which did disappear after a few uses.
After heavy use (at least once a day) it went kaput. So I tried a Russel Hobbs Essentials coffee maker, which I returned because it was incredibly poor manufacture and design. For the heavy use I give a coffee maker it just wasn't fit for purpose.
So I once again purchased this Delonghi coffee maker. It no longer has the plastic smell problem when new, and more importantly to my mind it makes a decent cup of coffee. I like it!
Its not that bad Sent: 18 April 2007 This coffee machine is not that bad. All you have to do about the water dripping while pouring into the water tank is use a tea towel or something to stop water from getting everywhere. Apart from that it makes lovely coffee. BUT the gauge is different to the jug. Ive had mine for nearly 2 years it was a replacement for my cookworks one which died after 4 hours of use (literally). So its not bad for the price.
Don't buy this - Bad design Sent: 16 April 2007 We got one of these last september. I am now looking for a replacement, because it died over the weekend. The coffee has been ok, but the design is awful. The opening for the water is small and a funny shape. I have never been able to fill it without spilling water over the kitchen worktop. The gauge on the side of the machine doesn't match the gauge on the jug. If you fill up to the 8 cup level, it only make 6 cups on the jug. This has made it difficult to get the coffee strength right. It's a cheap machine, but there are other available in that price range so don't buy it.
