Good machine Sent: 24 June 2008 Had one of these for a couple of months now and use it most days. It's very good, producing good hot coffee and frothed milk (Coop organic milk works best for me). I've had no problems with leaks described elsewhere. The only points to watch are that the frother is very noisy sometimes (other days it's fine) and also that there is a tiny pin-hole in the lower end of a short hollow plastic tube in the top of the rubber frother moulding. This tube and pinhole allow a controlled amount of air to be drawn in to mix with the steam to make the milk froth. If the pinhole gets blocked, then you get hot milk, but no froth. The pinhole gets blocked easily if the milk froth reaches the top of the frother and gets drawn in to the hole. This pinhole is hard to clean (hard to remove the plastic tube), but if it's kept clear everything works fine. It's easier to keep clean (with a pin) if the plastic tube is pushed back into the moulding with the pin-hole at the top.
Very good for the money Sent: 20 February 2008 I bought this espresso maker recently to replace an ageing Russell Hobbs that I inherited from my Mum. I found it a good buy for the price. As stated previously even on the first cup (after two cleaning run throughs as per manual) it produced a lovely rich crema.
It also takes very little time to actual produce the coffee. At first attempt it was noisy but it was the pump trying to take water from the tank which wasnt seated properly - as its removable you have to make sure you press it down securely so it engages the feeder pipe.
Everything is sturdly made and to those that had leaks you are a) doing something wrong or b) have a dodgy one.
I used my favourite illy ground espresso coffee and no problems. I tamped the top and had no leaks doing this.
Also as for someone who criticised the manual, Im guessing you didnt get the same one as me as it was very easy to read with plenty of diagrams (at the front) so I really didnt find a problem here. Yes a few words were mis-spelt but it was obvious what they meant.
Krups XP402040 K2 Espresso Coffee Maker Sent: 02 February 2008 We read the instructions(which are completely useless and dont make any sense at all..I think the translation is lost)?? We spent a fortune on trying different coffees and I was going to take it back to get a refund.
So after much frustration we sorted it out in our own way.
Buy good coffee ie illy DO NOT STAMP DOWN THE COFFEE AS SUGGESTED...if you do this it will leak..we kept descaling the filter thinking it was blocked but it was because the coffee had been pushed down too hard. just fill up the filter loosely(but not overflowing).
The other thing is between each function let the pump run until it stops!
You just have to make sure its heats up to the correct temp before frothing(the light goes out & its ready for action). It is noisey.
It will make u brilliant coffee & the frother is very good.
This does work this machine its just the instructions are not easy to follow.
The only other thing is you do need to descale if in a hard water area.. this will keep it going fine then
Hope I havent put you off as it does make really excellent coffee and its a shame the instructions are rubbish. I would have given it a 5/5 (instruction failure lets this machine down)!!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS - BRILLIANT Sent: 30 December 2007 I've had a De Longhi Cafe Treviso machine for 18 months and have always been very happy with it. MY WIFE HATES THE NOISE THOUGH! OK it is a bit loud! Anyway she suggested that I find a quieter alternative so I set off to the shops.
Found the Krups XP4020 in a local shop - display model - haggled - £89 it's mine (sorry Amazon) - take it home - set it up - read book.
CAN'T BELIEVE JUST HOW GOOD IT IS. I am an out and out espresso drinker and the first cup I made had the most INCREDIBLE CREMA - I MEAN THICK DEEP SEXY CREMA like a NERO (my favourite High Street Coffee Shop!)
Wife happy - purrs like the cats! That's the machine not my wife!
Forget the warming up coffee holder by running through without coffee - you really don't need to!
OK what would happen if someone wanted a cappucino? FROTHER WORKS BRILLIANTLY! I do tend to use a Bodum Aero Latte as well - That really does the trick!
To put it mildly I'm really impressed! ECSTATIC ACTUALLY!
