Amazing..... Sent: 20 November 2008 Would just like to say to anyone who still hasn't quite made up their mind - buy this one now!!
I have had mine for three months now and have only bought one supermarket loaf in that time which tasted gross by comparison to the Panasonic's loaves.
I have a family of four incl. 2 teenage boys and so use this machine every day (sometimes twice a day!) - I set it on the timer when I go to bed and come down to perfect bread. It has never disappointed and I reckon I've already made back the money spent on the machine.
I have never made bread before now but thought I would buy this to see what all the fuss was about - I did think it might end up in the shed with the footspa but it is never out of use and is amazing.
(Don't bother paying the extra for the nut dispenser though - you probably won't use it!)
Panasonic SD254 Breadmaker Sent: 17 November 2008 I have had a couple of breadmakers, and although this was a bit more than I wanted to pay, it has been definitely worth it. It was so easy to get used to, and the bread has been the best from any breadmaker I have had. I have tried a few of the doughs and tried adding seeds to the bread mixture, all of which have turned out brilliantly. Shop bread comes a definite second best in comparison. In fact I never buy bread now. this is a great machine and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
This one is the best! Sent: 04 November 2008 This has been my second Panasonic breadmaker. I gave the first one (fully working) away for no other reason than the footprint of this one is smaller.
I did a lot of research before I bought the Panasonic because it was far from being the cheapest and I confess to not buying it from Amazon as I got it a little cheaper from a members-only warehouse!
I have no hesitation whatever in recommending this machine. It does exactly what it says. However, my advice to anyone buying one is ... follow the recipes EXACTLY. They work ... beautifully. Later on you can experiment. I have one grump ... the Ciabatta recipe (dough) produces a lovely bread but it doesn't have the 'holes' you find in Ciabatta. There must be a way!
Five stars ... I'd give it more if I could.
Don't Buy Any Other Sent: 05 October 2008 If you want to make your own bread on a regular basis don't buy any other bread maker. I bought the compact morphy richards and thought it was quite good until I bought the Panasonic. The differences are huge, first the bread is much nicer and nowhere near as heavy. It lasts for at least 3 days whereas the other one only lasted 1 day before it was stale. It is much quicker to prepare as you don't have to grease the tin at all (a real pain). The fast bake loaves are nearly as excellent as the 5 hr ones. Buy the white plastic slicing guide from either amazon or lakeland and use an electric knife only (make sure the blade is not too short) to slice your fresh bread - keep it in the green veg bags from lakeland - you won't go back to shop bought bread as one slice of this bread keeps you going for hours. Also unless you want rye bread or can't be bothered to add sultanas etc when it beeps you don't need the more expensive one, they are exactly the same except the other one has a nut/fruit dispenser and a separate blade for rye bread.
