GREAT LITTLE MOVER Sent: 28 February 2010 This iron is easy to use and very effective. It is not at all heavy and gives a good constant steam output without 'dribbling'. The buttons are well placed for ease of use and the options offered are all useful. I have used much more expensive irons, which do not do the job as well as this.
Which? gets it wrong - again. Sent: 18 January 2010 I bought this iron just over 2 years ago (Nov 07) because it was a Which? best buy. My wife hasn't been happy with it from the word go. It is noisy, complicated and hard to store because of its weight and long, thick steam hose. Now two small pieces of broken blue plastic have appeared, presumably from its internals, and the steam function keeps turning itself on when we don't want it. I guess that after 2 years it is out of any sort of guarantee, so it's off to Currys / Argos this afternoon to get a replacement.
Philips GC8220 Pressurised Steam System Sent: 10 January 2010 This was bought to replace our aging Melissa steam generator iron and is slightley lighter,it performs quite well but does not do things like jeans all in one go as the melissa does.Overall its not a bad iron but after using the very good Melissa it does not quite match up.
Christmas Present Sent: 29 December 2009 bought this ironing system as a Christmas present for my wife, we had a bosch steam generator but you could only fill it when cold, its served very well for several years but time for a change, so this philips system got top marks in a Daily Mail test so I"ve been looking for one for some time and found this one on Amazon at an excellent price, my wife tried it out and said its the best iron she has ever used, so all in all I would recommend it to anyone.
easier ironing Sent: 08 November 2009 I purchased this item after reading alot of the reviews already placed. I can honestly say that my ironing time has decreased immensly. The seperate water tank is such a good idea as the iron base can be quite heavy and awkward so trying to fill it up would be really difficult. The long length on the iron cord is also very handy as i place the whole unit on my kitchen worktop and just work the iron from there, it works really well and i have more room on the ironing board for the bigger items such as quilts and sheets.
There are three seperate steam setting, the first one is good for woolens, the second for everyday stuff and the third one which is the highest is for your cotton sheets and linens that just seem to take an age to iron normally, With this iron it takes me about3 mins to iron a kingsize duvet.
Please bear in mind that i also have a heat retaining ironing board cover which also irons the underside of the garment as you iron so this also helps with the time, but i have always had one of these so I do beleive that this iron is much more productive.
This is an excellent iron and the steam that is generated really works well on the garments, i have even steamed over the kids motifs on their tops and you dont get any smudging - Fantastic!!
The only reason i have not given this a five star is the for the noise it makes. Its just an intermittent vibrating noise as the steam in regenerating itself so not too much of a problem, but it does need to be explained to all purchasers that if you are an ironer who finds it calm and relaxing to iron, whilst you listen to your mellow music, this isnt for you.
